School is in Session: Summer’s Eve® College Campus Tour Challenges Thousands of Students to “ID the V™”

LYNCHBURG, Va. October 19, 2011/ -- Continuing its mission to help educate women about their bodies, leading feminine hygiene products manufacturer Summer’s Eve® (www.summerseve.com) embarked on a five-college, five-week tour across the Southwest that put more than 6,000 female students’ anatomy IQ to the test with its ID the V™ quiz (www.idthev.com).

The online body awareness quiz was created in response to a 2010 survey showing that nearly 70 percent of women could not correctly identify five major parts of the female genitalia. Students in colleges across Arizona and California visited the pop-up Summer’s Eve booth, and the majority had to take the quiz an average of two to three times to correctly complete it – a testament to the importance of this education effort.

“After launching ID the V in July and reaching the milestone of 25,000 correctly completed quizzes just one month later, we were thrilled, but realized this was just the beginning,” said Angela Bryant, director of U.S. marketing, feminine care for Summer’s Eve. “People have discussed feminine hygiene in whispers for decades, so shifting the conversation in a new direction will take time. Our hope is that ID the V and efforts like our college campus tour will help Summer’s Eve put momentum behind that shift.”

The college campus tour lasted from September 21 until October 12, and included the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, California State University at Northridge, California State University at Fullerton, and California State University at Long Beach.

Students who took the quiz had reactions ranging from shock that they didn’t know their bodies to confidence when they scored five-out-of-five. "It’s surprisingly liberating to realize you just acknowledged parts of your own body you formerly could only refer to as ‘unmentionables,’” said Melissa Flynn, brand public relations for The Richards Group. “That’s the general sense we got from the students who stopped to take the ID the V quiz on our college tour. With all the unrealistic body ‘ideals’ that target young women, it’s more important than ever that we’re honest with ourselves about our bodies, so we’re so pleased to see that students embraced that message of body awareness.”
